What Are Spotify Codes?

Spotify Codes provide a unique way to share and find music for Spotify Users. Just scan the code using the Spotify app, and you’ll be taken to a song immediately!

Spotify Codes Online Survey

Around thirty people were surveyed online asking about if they have speakers, when and where they use them, what sizes they prefer, etc. I also asked for their critiques on several existing speakers so I could gather what people liked or didn’t like. These three questions shown below, however, justify my design for the rest of this project. If these codes were made more accessible, people would use them.

How Can Spotify Codes Be Made More Accessible?

I thought the best way, and perhaps the most interesting, would be to create a Spotify branded speaker. Taking a service company’s brand language and turning it into a physical product to help promote their service and features would offer an exciting challenge that I wanted to take on.

Finding & Playing Songs With Other Speakers VS Spotify Core

Flow Charts were created to illustrate how streamlined the process of finding and playing songs at a party or hangout can be, and will be with Spotify Core.

Before VS After

Before, only one person, the host of the speaker, could connect to the speaker, play songs, skip songs, and queue songs up. Now, with Spotify Core, that experience can be universal.

Cardboard/Paper Mock-Ups

Two of the best designs from CAD were transformed into 3D mock-ups using cardboard and paper. These forms let me observe their physical forms, sizes, and accessibility to the code and other controls. The pill-shaped form would allow for more efficient space internally for speaker components while providing simple and accessible touch controls.
